Movies that Matter is a six-week series where we’ll show documentaries about farming, food, soil, and the creative ways people are strengthening communities. After each movie, we’ll pull up some chairs and talk about what we’ve seen—what inspired us, what surprised us, and what we might try in our own fields and communities. Whether you’re a farmer, gardener, or just curious about how food and community fit together, you’re welcome here.
All films are free and open to everyone, but please register in advance (see links below) so we can plan appropriately.
January 14, 2026
For this installment, we’ll watch To Which We Belong, a 2021 documentary featuring a progressive group of farmers focused on the interconnectedness of all living things in order to strengthen their farming operations, improve the soil and water, and bolster biological communities below ground.
January 27
Join us to view The Biggest Little Farm, an uplifting story of a farm built on biodiversity and a recognition of interconnections, impermanence, and transformation.
February 11
Next up is Green and Gold, a family farm drama inspired by true events, that melds the struggles of a Wisconsin dairy farm, generational hopes and dreams, the Green Bay Packers, and the amazing ways the farming community shows up for one another.
February 25
To wrap up the month, we’ll gather to watch two episodes of the new docuseries Roots So Deep, which digs into the benefits of adaptive multi-paddock (AMP) grazing. As a special bonus, we’ll have director Peter Byck available afterward for a virtual Q&A session.
March 11
As we begin thinking about spring, we’ll gather to watch Kiss the Ground, a 2020 documentary promoting regeneration and healthy soil as a viable solution for human and planetary health.
March 25
To wrap up our film series, we’ll watch Join or Die, a documentary that explores the decline of community engagement in America and argues that the increased social isolation has led to diminished human health and growing societal problems.
